The MEDITGIB 2014 campaign is a physical oceanography campaign; it aims to study the Mediterranean outflow and its future in the Gulf of Cadiz. The aim is to qualify the Mediterranean waters at the entrance to the Strait upstream and monitor their transformation through the Strait to identify mixing zones along the way. The monitoring extends downstream into the Gulf of Cadiz where the Mediterranean outflow enters at the exit of the Strait: its extension and distribution in the Gulf are part of the problem of the campaign. In the direction entering the Mediterranean Sea, the aim is to follow the Atlantic surface waters and their future towards the Mediterranean Sea;

One of the rapid dynamic oceanographic processes that potentially has a role in the Strait area as well as to the east is the internal waves; MeditGib is particularly interested in the generation zones identified in the Camarinal threshold area and the eastward propagation of the generated waves. To this end, several instrumental devices are moored (current meter, thermistor chain) throughout the campaign.

The Protevs Swot 2018 campaign aimed to explore the South Balearic zone in early spring to observe the small scales of the oceanic mixed layer using high-resolution sampling devices.

The area was chosen because it was positioned below the SWOT satellite's planned swath in its validation/calibration period. In this sense, it is a precursor experiment of experiments for the year 2022 and as such exploratory of the scales that will be observable by this newly designed altimetry satellite.

A particular focus was placed on an anticyclonic structure in the southern Balearic Islands that is systematically detectable by altimetry but which appears to be an artifact.

These samplings were combined with fine analysis of the surface content of small phytoplankton by flow cytometry to study the shaping of the marine landscape by frontal physical processes.

The Protevs Med 2017 campaign aimed to explore the area of the northern Balearic front and the southern edge of the convection area of the north western basin at the end of winter when convection events are most likely. Sampling to target small mesoscale structures detectable by altimetry but also even smaller structures that did not sign on altimetry.

A particular focus was placed on an anticyclonic structure in the southern Balearic Islands that is systematically detectable by altimetry but which appears to be an artifact.

Finally, the edge of the Catalan shelf was explored at high resolution.
