Oceanographic survey collected in the framework of the following research project: INTERCAMBIOS EN EL ESTRECHO DE GIBRALTAR Y SU RESPUESTA A FORZAMIENTOS METEOROLOGICOS Y CLIMATICOS, INGRES 2. This Project is funded by the Education and Science Spanish Ministery.The technical objetive of the mission is to recover and to deploy a mooring system in a monitoring station (Espartel) in the Strait of Gibraltar to estimate the Mediterranean Outflow accurately (ADCP based observations) and the Atlantic Inflow into the Mediterranean Sea, with the help of indirect estimators and incomplete currentmeter data sets.

To estimate nitrogen (NH4+, NO2-, NO3-), phosphate and silicate fluxes in the Strait of Gibraltar, to quantify and characterise the fluxes of particulate organic carbon and nitrogen (POC/PON) and to estimate of picoplankton, nanoplankton and microplankton biomass distribution in the Strait of Gibraltar To describe the hydrological structure and the geochemical fields of the region of the Gulf of Cadiz, particularly at the levels influenced by the Mediterranean waters, in order to set a background for interpreting the dynamics of the Outflow

LA FINALIDAD GLOBAL ES LA ELABORACION DE UN PROCESO EVOLUTIVO DE PLATAFORMA CONTINENTAL, DE CLIMA TEMPLADO Y DE CARACTER CARBONATADO, APLICABLE A OTROS DOMINIOS SEMEJANTES, ASI COMO A LA INTERPRETACION DEL REGISTRO FOSIL Y SU EVIDENTE REPERCUSION EN EL CAMPO DE LA GEOLOGIA APLICADA. PARA CONSEGUIR UN MODELO DE ESTAS CARACTERISTICAS, SE DEBEN SOLVENTAR DOS ASPECTOS BASICOS: 1.- PROCESOS Y FACTORES DE PRODUCION 2.- PROCESOS Y FACTORES DE ACUMULACION ESTE TIPO DE ESTUDIO MUESTA UN INTERES EXCEPCIONAL DEBIDO A LA ESCASEZ DE TRABAJOS SOBRE EL TEMA. DEBE REMARCARSE, ASI MISMO, EL ESPECIAL INTERES QUE PRESENTA LA CUENCA MEDITERRANEA BAJO MUY DIFERENTES ASPECTOS OCEANOGRAFICOS ENMARCADOS EN LAS VARIACIONES QUE PRESENTA EN CUANTO A COMPOSICION DINAMICA, SEDIMENTACION Y EVOLUCION.
